Having a career in foreign policy can be very interesting and rewarding. You can live in different foreign areas around the world and help people in need. Also you can provide assistance to officials in other countries going thru major events such as the Kazakhstan Democracy. Although you don’t have to have a certain degree to start your career in foreign policy, here are some colleges degrees that can help you advance in this field.
Political Science
By majoring in political science, you will learn the ins and outs of how national and international government systems work. The courses in this degree program will allow you to study about American and foreign policies along with political information. As a political science major, you should have an interest in working in field of government and/or politics. It would be wise to also obtain a graduate degree as well.
International Relations
A degree in international relations provides students with in-depth information regarding international politics and policies. You will learn the history of different foreign nations, their culture, and their governmental policies. The courses in this program are often similar to the courses taken for a political science degree. But students are also required to learn at least one foreign language such as French or Spanish.
Economics
An economics degree is also a great degree to obtain for a career in foreign policy. As an economics major, you will learn about how economic theories and practices are applied to national and international businesses. This degree program also provides the foundation needed to enter into the financial side of foreign government. Some colleges offer the option to obtain an economic degree with an emphasis in international economics.
