Paying Back Financial Aid

You have finished college and reality hits you about the repayment of your student loans. Today many people are struggling to figure out how to pay for their student loans and some are even defaulting and struggling with their Payday One loans. Are there ways to get help if you are having problems repaying your student loan?

The U.S. Department of Education has a website that lists information about loan repayment, loan forgiveness, and defaulting on loans. If you have a Stafford loan you do have six months after graduation before repayment begins. During this time you can request a consolidation loan so you will only have one payment to make. When doing this you can chose from several types of payment plans that will vary on length and how much the payment amounts will be during certain periods of time.

If you are having problems it is important to work out any issues with the lender as there are major consequences for defaulting on a student loan debt. Just as if you were buying a house or a car your education loans can affect your credit. There are some fields that will pay off or pay a portion of your student loans for you. Education and the military are two such areas that are focused on helping students get through the nightmare of student loans.

If possible before taking out loans try to obtain scholarships or grants.  Even working and saving up money for tuition would be a good way to help finance your education. When you get out of college you should enjoy life, not be in constant stress due to the weight of financial aid bills. So take your time, do your research and prepare for the financial aspects of college.

Going on a study abroad program during college is such a fun and exciting experience. However, if you’ve opted to study online, you may not have the “traditional” opportunity of a study aboard experience. No worries! When you are working on your online degree, you can study anywhere at anytime… including a foreign country. Read below for ideas on how to create your own study abroad program.

Travel

You can always travel to another destination. The good news about getting a bachelor degree online is that you don’t have to wait for a spot to open up in a program or worry about being accepted to a study abroad group. All you have to do is grab your laptop and book a plane ticket to anywhere in the world. You can still keep up with your classes, but have the freedom to explore a new land and culture.

Stay at Home

As a college student, the funds to travel might not be available right now. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still have your study abroad experience. You can research other countries you would like to visit from home. Make a list of places you want to explore, adventures you want to take, and countries you want to visit. Then, once you receive your degree, you can start to travel anywhere you want! A “faux” vacation can sometimes be just as exciting as an actual vacation.

Not long ago, employers turned up their noses (and turned out applicants) whose curriculum vitae included courses completed online. Today, distance learning is an integral part of the overall delivery of course material found in universities across the globe. Students can attend lectures from the best schools in the country; online and for free. Online education is in a golden age of development and the offerings are exciting.

Most major universities offer open courseware (OCW). OCW allows anyone, anywhere, to access the course material taught at the respective universities offering them. Although credit is not granted, students may master the material. Some learners assemble a self-acquired competency portfolio that they then submit to the university they have been formally admitted to.

Universities from around the globe have united in an effort to perfect the delivery of OCW and continue to work to make higher education available to all. At the pinnacle of these offerings, stands the University of the People, the U of People. Tuition is free, although there are fees for testing and other services. Financial burdens are minimal so that any person in the world can gain access to a higher education; a precious resource that was previously outside their grasp.

How Can I Finance a Study Abroad Program?

Many students seek to experience new adventures during college and one such adventure can be the study abroad program. The main obstacle for some students is how to finance their trip. If money is tight there are options that can be investigated such as scholarships.

Surviving as an International Student

Education is the greatest gift that you can give anyone. At first, it may even seem like punishment but when the person is educated and literate enough, they will be eternally grateful. In a bid to ensure that their children and wards get the very best in terms of education, some parents are ready to send them abroad in search of quality education.
However, the best that your parents can do for you is to pay your school fees, they will not read the books for you. And one thing that we must remember is that not every student has parents that can support them, some are just too poor or even dead. As a student, you must learn how to manage money wisely or you become stranded when you least expect.
Also, another tip for survival as an international student is that you must know your limits under the law. Never cross your boundary by breaking the law as this may lead to withdrawal of your student visa or deportation and that is even if you do not get jailed. Know the law and abide by it. Once you are able to do all these, you just have to concentrate on your studied, remember that excellent performance will land you a scholarship.

Disadvantages of Studying Abroad

The importance of education is something that cannot be underestimated or overlooked. In fact, it is not a matter that can be contested unless by the ignorant. For those that know and understand the value of education, they will stop at nothing to get it. As a result, traveling to other nations, especially in the developed world is a phenomenon that is becoming increasingly attractive to many. One of the most obvious disadvantages of studying abroad is the prohibitively expensive cost of education in some of these countries. Although nothing good comes easy, it is the belief of many analysts that education should not be denied the poor because of skyrocketing prices. Many students from developing countries end up dropping out from foreign schools when they can no longer sustain themselves in school or when the fees are suddenly jerked up.
Another factor that an international student must contend with when studying thousands of kilometers away from home is loneliness. Being so far away from the comfort and warmth of home can be a very debilitating experience for some students especially those that find it difficult to blend easily or acclimatize soon enough. For this category of students, boredom and disappointment soon set in which may have a negative effect on their academic and social lives.
In addition to this, an international student may be subjected to undue discrimination, harassment, bullying or even racism in a foreign land. And considering the fact that they are so far away from home, they can be vulnerable in such circumstances. Choosing a destination to pursue further education is an humongous task and also the most vital destination that one could make in her career. A good destination you chose will decide on your future career wise and maybe ever personally. Hence you will have to consider the following decisions for yourself or your child before you decide on a education destination.

Then look at the fees that are asked by the institution and the living costs. If the fees are too high, look for scholarships being offered. All these will further bring down your options. Now you will have to decide on the destination that you are planning to make home for the next two or three years. Here you will have to look at the culture, religion, food, language and people. If you are willing to be considerate for a few things then a few things like food and language can be adjusted with. But the other things are essential. Other important thing would be the work and study to cover your living expenses which you cannot afford on your own expense, this will have other advantages too.

USA study abroad experience

In many ways, the USA is the most sought after destination for international students. Whatever be our other faults, this country has become what it is by emphasizing the need for advanced scientific education for everybody; including the million strong foreign students that come to our shore. Our facilities are world class, our education funding is unbeatable anywhere in the world, and although our tuition fees are high, every meritorious student gets a free tuition deal every year. These are some of the great things that has made American education a very important part of the life of so many foreigners.

However, foreigners should also be aware of some of the big pitfalls of studying in this country. One is the cultural differences that exist in this country compared to countries like India and China which are the two countries sending most students here. These cultural differences are not noticeable in schools, but if a foreign student happens to mix with the American world outside the school environ, he or she can be in for a major culture shock. The basic thing about social life in America is a tension between tradition and liberalism; while liberal spirits tell one to act in a certain way, tradition is there to be ruthless vigilante. A foreign student should be very aware of these things before he ventures out.

Secondly, the crime rate is extremely high here compared to some mild mannered, controlled society. Unaware students may venture into parts of an American town which are notorious for crime. Unless you are very aware of the things going on in a particular neighborhood, you will fall prey to a serious crime, as often happens with some foreign students.

Lastly, there’s the solitariness factor – life in America can be very lonely compared to the one you left behind at home. Learn to adjust quickly, or you will be in deeper trouble than you ever knew how to handle.
